South West Salty Sisters brings together girls who have begun their surfing journey on either short boards or foam boards, between the ages of 5 and 16. The groups aim is to help girls grow their self confidence in and out of the water and make connections with other surfing families.
South West Salty Sisters creates a space for positive mental health and wellbeing. Surfing opportunities are delivered in a safe, nurturing and supported environment.
The group encourages locally living girls to develop a passion for the ocean in the Margaret River Region and to create a strong supportive surfing culture between the members
Provide an environment for girls to develop their surfing skills, surfing etiquette and safety in the surf
Build confidence in members and help them forge new friendships with the aim of creating a more positive mental health mind set
Share the love of the ocean with other like-minded people
Create an environment for parents of surfing children to connect in the community
Assist with creating equality in the water with all water user groups
What to expect
Four sessions per season are held within the Margaret River region. Each session has a focus on age-appropriate surfing skill development. Most gatherings having a surf school coach/professional surfer attend as guest mentor.
During the season a mix of shore-based content is offered by guest mentors at the gatherings: including environmental education, beach games, mental health and wellbeing and physical fitness sessions to support surfing.
